Year of Faith in St. Catherine’s & St. Finbarr’s
Sr. Philomena Neary R.S.C. works as Parish Sacramental Preparation Co-Ordinator for four schools in Cabra West, Dublin 7. The children from these schools have been very busy preparing for Easter, and celebrating the Year of Faith.
In St. Catherine’s Senior School, Cabra, Sr. Philomena helped the children to prepare The Jesse Box. This is a child friendly interactive way of telling Bible Stories to children. Click here to open a PDF to see the creative artwork done by the children, to bring to life the stories for Lent.
To celebrate the Year of Faith, The Most Precious Blood Parish, Cabra West, ran a competition for primary school children. The children from 3rd and 4th classes were invited to draw a picture of their favourite bible / gospel story. The children from 5th and 6th classes were invited to do a project on any of the following passages:
Mark 1:16-21 – Jesus calls 4 fishermen
Mark 4:35-41 – Jesus calms a storm
Mark 4:45-53 – Jesus walks on water
Mark 4:1-10 – Parable of the Sower
Mark 4:30-33 – Parable of the Mustard Seed
Mark 8:27-31 – Peter’s profession of faith
Mark 12:28-32 – The greatest commandment
The aim of the project was to encourage children to read Gospel Stories and to learn the message.
