There was an air of excitement and celebration for the week of the 50th International Eucharistic Congress, which took place from 10th – 17th June 2012. The opening Mass took place at the RDS Dublin, as did all of the main events. However, events were organised throughout the country, so that people could choose when and where they wanted to celebrate and what they wanted to do. The closing mass was held in Croke Park on Sunday 17th June, and was attended by thousands from around the world.
It was a very memorable occasion for all who took part in the week of events.
The programme of events in the RDS was attractive and it catered for all age groups. There were many exhibitors during the week, including the Religious Sisters of Charity. There was also a Youth Space, which featured a rich mix of interactive catechesis, workshops, drama, dance and music, and was open to all adults between 17 and 25 years old. There was a mass held that was suitable for the active participation of children, with singing, prayers and drama. This programme was intended specifically for children aged 7-12 year old (First Communion – Confirmation).
It was a very memorable occasion for all who took part in the week of events. In fact some people are still talking about the last Eucharist Congress which was held in 1932, and some who attended that Congress were also present at this one in June 2012!
